Top-ranked Calumet had its hands full with Norway before pulling away for 47-13 win in a West Pac Conference crossover game on Friday.
The Copper Kings led just 8-7 after the first quarter and scored a touchdown as time expired for a 22-7 halftime lead.
Calumet (5-0, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Big School Division of the UPSSA football poll, scored 16 unanswered points in the third quarter as Norway (1-4, 1-3) began to wear down.
Isaac Hautamaki’s 13-yard touchdown run in the first quarter kept the Knights in the game early and Josh Gendron added a 69-yard TD sprint in the fourth quarter to hold off a running clock.
Nick Djerf fueled Calumet’s offense with 72 rushing yards on 11 carries. He had three short TD runs. Scott Loukus completed 8 of 10 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, all in the first half.
Gendron ran four times for 85 yards and Hautamaki gained 75 yards in 18 attempts. Norway quarterback Nathan Paulitch was 2 of 7 passing for 14 yards.
The Knights will host Bark River-Harris for homecoming at 6 p.m. Friday.
