Playing without star Matt Ojala, the Calumet Copper Kings found a way to win Tuesday over a tenacious Jeffers Jets team on the road, 51-30.
“We played without Matt tonight, who is working through an ankle sprain,” said Copper Kings coach Mike Ojala. “It was good to see the kids step up in his absence.”
Eli McParlan was a big part of the group of players picking up the offensive slack for Calumet as he racked up 16 points with 10 coming in the first half. Travis Ojala was also strong, scoring a game-high 17 points.
Other Copper Kings contributed to a solid defense that held the Jets to just 30 points.
“We certainly didn’t shoot well, but defensively we were solid,” said Mike Ojala. “(We) made things tough on Jeffers all night. They are a young team and Trent (Keteri) is doing a great job getting them to compete.”
Christian Hocking paced the Jets with 13 points on the night.
